Sign in help / Passkey setup
Signing in
You can sign in with a password or a passkey, If you don't have an account, you will need to ask a colleague to arrange this for you or contact the support team for the audit you want to access. To setup a passkey, you will need to sign in with password first to register a passkey once, then you just need your passkey to sign in. See the notes below for details.
Signing in with a password
Once you have an account, you can sign-in with a system name we give you, like: John Smith/HOS/Crown - OR - an email address you have given us, like: john.smith@hospital.org.uk and a password. The first time you use your account, you will be asked to set your own password - a 'strong' password containing at least 12 characters, with upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. Passwords are case sensitive. In other words, you must type it in exactly as you set it. Passwords are only known to you and only you can set it or use it. Do not share your passwords with anybody else.
Signing in with a passkey
A passkey is an ultra secure alternative to a password to sign into a website or app. Passkeys are a new identity authentication standard to help users easily access secure services. It's created and safely stored on your device. You don't need a user name or password to use your passkey. You will be able to log in using your fingerprint, face, PIN, swipe-pattern, hardware security token or any other method you use to unlock your device.
Passkeys provide strong protection against phishing and hacking attempts. Each passkey is unique and linked to the website it is created for. Fraudulent apps or websites cannot use your passkey. Your passkey is safely stored on your device. No one can see or access it, including anyone at Crown Audit.
For more details refer to the 'About passkeys' button below or search for 'passkeys' on the internet for more information.
Setting up a passkey
To get started with passkeys, try enabling a simple PIN with Windows Hello. This will work on any modern Windows desktop or laptop. To sign in with a passkey, you must already have an account and a password. If you don't have an account, you will need to request one and set this up first, before you can setup a passkey. You may need help from your computer services team to set this up or to provide further assistance and advice.
To setup a passkey, first enter your username and password details, tick the 'Create a passkey' check box and 'Sign in' as usual.
A new form will open to complete the passkey setup - just follow the instructions given. You'll need one of the following:
• A secure desktop or laptop with Windows 'Hello' sign-in service enabled (or equivalent on other systems), or
• A secure phone or tablet with a 'QR' code reader and Bluetooth enabled on both devices (the phone and the computer you want sign in to), or
• A secure identity token or hardware device (FIDO2 compatible device e.g. Yubikey) already setup on your computer or device
Once you have setup your passkey, just click the 'Sign in with a passkey' button to login using your preferred passkey method.
